Our Association

Founded in 1998, the Association of Family Businesses is a private, non-profit organisation with a national scope which covers all sectors of activity. Our members are the Chairmen, Directors, Shareholders or Managers of their own Family Businesses. We have national and international Associate Companies of various sizes and economic importance, which represent an important part of the country's economy.

Next in Line

In 2016, the Next in Line Group was born within the Association, representing the next generations of Associate Family Businesses. The group started with 20 companies and now has more than 150 members, including small, medium and large organisations.

"The Association of Family Businesses exists to promote and defend the interests of its Associates."

Family business features

Family Businesses (FBs) are those in which a family holds control, can appoint management, and some of its members participate and work in the company. They can be small, medium or large, listed on the stock exchange or not. Family businesses are a pillar of the national and global economy. They employ thousands of people and make a decisive contribution to the global economy.

International studies indicate that Family Businesses are the majority of companies worldwide, and in Portugal, it is estimated that they represent:
70 to 80%
OF ALL COMPANIES
50%
OF TOTAL JOBS
65%
OF TOTAL GDP
