Building the Future in Family Businesses – AESE
Date 29 sep, 30 sep. and 01 october
Format – In-person in Lisbon
Studies show that family businesses are the most resistant to change and the most conservative in their decision-making processes. Yet, they are also the ones that invest the most in innovation, drive job creation, bet on the global market, and generate wealth for the country. They are also the businesses most committed to looking toward the future without neglecting the present.
Management in family businesses tends to focus on what truly matters, emphasizing sustainable growth and long-term business continuity.
It is essential to have a management approach that considers corporate governance, the family’s role in the business, and its internal governance. It requires the ability to plan and manage succession processes properly and proactively, to address the financial aspects of dividends, investments, and equity from both business and family perspectives, to communicate effectively both externally and internally—within the company and within the family—and to develop family agreements that establish a healthy framework for the company’s and family’s future. These are the tasks of the modern-day Don Quixotes.
The long term represents continuity—it is the future that families aspire to for their businesses. It goes beyond temporary trends or socially driven obligations. Managing a family business is not about managing my business, but about receiving an asset from the previous generation and making it even better and stronger for the next one.
That is why building the future in family businesses is a responsibility—and it will always be the mission of their leaders.

Program Director | Family in Business Accelerator
The objective of the program is to bring everyone together as an intergenerational group to carry out a self-assessment of their company’s current situation, specifically within its unique context and diversity. This process involves mapping, analysis, comparison, and improvement of the existing situation, with the goal of jointly defining a plan for the future.
Through this program, participants will be able to expand their knowledge of successful family businesses, better understand and navigate the specific challenges and critical issues faced by family enterprises, and reflect on their own family business and family ownership dynamics.
